V2L explained!
What is V2L (Vehicle-to-Load)?
V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) is an innovative technology that allows electric vehicles (EVs) to do more than just drive and charge. Thanks to V2L, EVs can function as mobile power supplies and supply electrical devices with power via the car's battery. This makes it possible to use your EV as a powerful and flexible energy point, for example for camping, events or emergencies.
How does V2L work?
V2L works by harnessing power from your electric vehicleโs battery via a special V2L adapter that plugs into your vehicleโs Type 2 charging port. The adapter converts the DC (Direct Current) from the battery into AC (Alternating Current), allowing standard household appliances to be connected to a 220V outlet.
For example, you can:
- Using electrical appliances such as refrigerators, coffee makers and lights while camping.
- Connecting sound systems and lighting to events.
- Powering tools in locations without a fixed power supply.
- Provide emergency power to your home in the event of a power outage.
What are the benefits of V2L?
The V2L function offers numerous advantages for electric vehicle users:
๐ Flexibility and convenience
With V2L you can supply power anywhere without being dependent on fixed power supplies. Ideal for off-grid applications such as camping or working in remote locations.
๐ ๏ธ Emergency power supply
In the event of a power outage, your EV can act as a backup power source to run essential home appliances such as lights, medical equipment, or your refrigerator.
๐ Environmentally friendly
By using the energy in your car intelligently, you can deal with electricity more sustainably. After all, you use electricity that you have already stored instead of using additional energy sources.
What applications is V2L suitable for?
V2L is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as:
- Camping: Use your EV to power lights, cooking equipment, and other appliances.
- Events and markets: Supply power to stalls, sound systems and equipment without the need for a fixed power connection.
- Work on-site: Connect power tools when working on a construction site or other remote location.
- Emergencies: Use your EV as an emergency power source to keep essential home appliances running during a power outage.
Which cars support V2L?
Not all electric vehicles support V2L, but more and more new models are being equipped with this feature. Popular cars with V2L capabilities include:
- Hyundai Ioniq 5
- Kia EV6
- Ford F-150 Lightning
- BYD models such as the Atto 3
Check the specifications of your EV to see if it is suitable for V2L.
How do you use V2L?
Using V2L is simple:
1. Connect a V2L adapter to the Type 2 charging port on your EV.
2. Connect the adapter to the device you want to power.
3. Turn on the device and you're ready to go!
Depending on the battery capacity of your EV, you can power devices for hours. For example, you can run a refrigerator or lights for days during a camping trip.
Why is V2L the future?
V2L offers a new way to make electric vehicles multifunctional. It transforms your car from a means of transportation to a mobile energy source, which offers enormous added value for EV owners.
Whether you need power for an outdoor adventure, an event or as an emergency supply at home โ V2L makes your life easier, more flexible and more sustainable.
In short: With V2L you get more out of your electric car than ever before!
